A Little Background on "A Little Help" (formerly Washington Park Cares)
Our organization was formed as a non-profit (501(c)3) just a few years ago. The idea behind it is both simple and elegant: to enhance the lives of people age 55 and over who live in south-central Denver Colorado. We provide our members with a variety of services such as transportation, yard work, and minor home repair, by volunteers or preferred providers, as well as offering opportunities for socialization and community engagement. Our service area includes well over 11,000 people of the 55 and over age group, all inside an area bounded by Santa Fe Drive, Colorado Boulevard , Yale, and Sixth Avenue. Our motto is "One number is all you need". Members can call 720-381-2470 and will get the help needed.
We changed our name to be more reflective of those much broader boundaries. Washington Park is in the geographical center of our service area. We know there are many people who need, and want, to be members of our organization; we also know that many of those 11, 000+ potential members have never heard of us. That will change in 2012.
Our members have made the choice of staying at home, with "a little help" from their friends and neighbors, versus moving to assisted living (with a lot of help). Studies show that this is the clear choice of most people--when they actually have the choice. We offer that choice after you make it, you are never alone. Won't you join us?
Of course, as we continue to grow, so too have our needs for resources: volunteers, financial support for our programs. Your financial support, no matter the amount, is always deeply appreciated. Thank you.
